How can we help?

Bugs, questions and ideas all go to the same place.

Report a bug or request a feature

Use the issue tracker. It keeps your report in one place with a number you can follow, so you can see when it is picked up and when it is fixed. This is the fastest route and the one we prefer.

For anything you would rather not post in public, for account questions, or for a licence or purchase problem, send us an email. Please do not include passwords or access tokens.

How to report something

Our tracker runs at tickets.rationalforge.com. It takes about two minutes the first time and about thirty seconds after that.

  1. 1

    Create an account

You need one so we can reply to you and so you get notified when your issue changes. We ask for a username and an email address, nothing else.

  2. 2

Check whether it is already reported

Have a quick look through the open issues first. If you find yours, add a comment saying you hit it too and what you were doing at the time. That is more useful than a second copy of the report.

    Browse existing issues
  3. 3

Pick the right project and category

The project says which of our things you are talking about. The category says what kind of message it is.

    Project

    • RFCommand
    • Website
    • Prince of Programming

    Category

    • Bug, something is broken
    • Feature request, something is missing
    • Question, you are stuck
    • Documentation, the help is wrong or unclear
  4. 4

    Describe it, then submit

A one-line summary, then the detail below. You can attach a screenshot, which is often worth more than a paragraph. Once you submit, you get an issue number and an email whenever the status changes.

What makes a report easy to fix

You do not have to be technical. The single most useful thing you can do is describe what you did, what you expected, and what happened instead.

The steps that led to it, in order
What you expected to happen
Whether it happens every time
Your RFCommand version, from Help then About
Your Windows version
Which kind of source was involved
Please do not paste passwords, connection strings or access tokens into an issue. Issues can be seen by other people. If a report needs one of those to make sense, say so and email it instead. See our Privacy Policy for what we store when you use the tracker.
